Anders Hejlsberg (of Pascal and C# fame) held the opening keynote at this year’s JAOO in Ã…rhus. His presentation was on the topic of future programming languages. He pointed to three different key trends that will affect language design and programming in the future; the trend of more dynamic languages, declarative programming (what, not how) and concurrency (maximizing utility of multicore systems). It was a very interesting talk.

Both Realway and our sister company Jayway have sent delegates to JAOO to check out the latest and greatest. Neo Technology is also here and there have been some nice discussions about how to improve performance and scalability of web applications.

The trend of parallelizing tasks to utilize multicore systems is of increasing interest for Realway. We have made some experiments with the Cell processor (what you find in the PS3) to see how we can help potential customers parallelize and shorten lead time of computing intensive applications.
